Junior middleweight Miguel Cotto (Caguas, Puerto Rico) is a holding pattern for his next fight, but he has added another possibility for his next move..
A re-match with Antonio Margarito seemed to be Cotto’s a go, but with Margarito sorting out his optical health, Cotto is looking at another Mexican for his next challenge.
Enter Julio Cesar Chavez Junior.

Chavez Junior will be fighting on June 4 against Sebastian Zbik, with the action from the Staples Center in Los Angeles televised by HBO in the United States, and Cotto will be ringside to scout the young Mexican.
A fight with Chavez Junior could be another interesting chapter in the long standing boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, but a few significat issues immediatley come to mind.
Is Chavez Junior ready for, or even possess the ability to provide Cotto a legitimate challenge? Stepping up to fight Cotto, would clearly by the most dangerous decision Chavez has ever made. Advertisement
Chavez’s trainer Freddie Roach, believes the twenty-five year old is making significant improvement under his watchful eye and instruction.
Another area of debate would be the weight limit for a fight, Chavez Junior will be challenging Zbik in the middleweight class, and Cotto is at best a small junior middleweight. Could, or would Chavez Junior step back down a few pounds to challenge an already dangerous foe in Cotto? Would Cotto dare scale the ladder on more run and fight Chavez at middleweight.
A lot of ground must be covered before Cotto battles Chavez Junior, but the first step is in Julio’s hands – defeating Sebastian Zbik in impressive fashion.
