MANILA, Philippines – Some social media accounts operated like fight announcers when Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao joined the plenary debates on the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill on Wednesday.
On the red corner was Pacquiao, a vocal critic of the measure. He interpellated pro-RH bill lawmakers, to the anticipation of internet users nationwide.
On the purple corner, it was House Minority Floor Leader and principal sponsor of the RH Bill, Rep. Edcel Lagman of Albay.
For some who seemed to have overdosed on Photoshop, the match-up reminded them of the video game Street Fighter, complete with the choice of Mayon Volcano as the background
But for many, it was like a headliner in a top pay-per-view boxing event: a veteran lawmaker against a younger one.
An in-depth article from ABS-CBN reporter RG Cruz likened the debate to the recently concluded Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight, but in this case, Pacquiao was the one running away.
The article says, “there were no quick series of argumentative punches, no strength in his arguments, no intense follow-up questions”.
One Twitter user also thinks so: @ellobofilipino says the Pacman took a couple of steps back from Lagman’s punches.
