This weeks email bag has an overload of questions involving the super featherweight and featherweight divisions. There were questions on whether Marco Antonio Barrera will or won’t fight the explosive Pac Man, to the many inquiries on their upcoming fights, and of course Erik too. I’ve got to say that you readers really know your boxing – with an overwhelming amount of you mentioning these amazing three, and its all due to the fans who are the most loyal ones clamoring for more showdowns. Being heard is the best way to make the demands possible.

Yeah I think that sort of thing for someone relaxing and having fun is overplayed. If I hadn’t known better, I’d had thought it was like some kind of mortal sin to gamble, drink, or dance. All the good book says is to pay what you owe, or if you barrow to replace that value with something equal in replacing it. What people make someone out to be to usually isn’t.
What is the possibility of Pacquiao Barrera rematch? Does Barrera still have the heart to clash again with Manny after the Filipino ring idol blew him out? What are your insights in the up and coming fight of PACMAN against Velasquez?

I do know that it is in the promoter’s hands in working for the public interest, but that’s not what is on the table right now. Pacquiao will need a little wakeup call in the mix, but nothing that I think he couldn’t handle.
It might sound too critical to an average fighter to be in that particular spotlight, but we’re talking of a caliber fighter who rises to the occasions. You know its funny because I remember when Roberto Duran talked on television after his KO over Ray Lampkin, and said had he been in a little better shape; they’d be taking Ray to the morgue, instead of the hospital. Duran wasn’t conscience that Lampkin was in that bad condition when they interviewed him, just that he knocked him out.

It’s a huge caseload. I’d like to say that these three superior warriors (Barrera, Morales, and Pacquiao) are great for each other because without them, where’d any of us be without writing about them anyway?
What would be your prediction if this fight happens in the near future and why?
And also will the golden boy allows his prized fighter Barrera to risk his career to fight the southpaw again?

You did not say what fight you were referring to on the first one.
I’m assuming since you’re speaking on Barrera facing a “Southpaw” that you meant Manny Pacquaio, correct?
I think Manny is viable enough to meet those criteria’s inferred, but you’re going to have to ask The Golden Boy yourself to see if there’re other possible options in fighting him.
Hello George, it just came to my thoughts that i prefer pacman to be an underdog. In all of his fight that he was the underdog, he won it all. I just hope that this time he would win.

Would you agree with my impression that the first fight’s freak ending was due to the lapses of Castillo in going for the kill after the knockdowns? What are the odds on this sequel and what advise can you give Castillo based on the first fight?

I wouldn’t give any better advises for the sheer volume that we all witnessed in that attritional warfare with Castillo-Corrales I. If they didn’t spend themselves inside that ring that night, then I don’t know a thing.
Whatever edge was in some saying for he not pacing inside of his Castillo reserve was to the infamous second spitting mouthpiece onto the catcher’s mitt classic meticulous breather. It showed Corrales had the right presence of mind to catch it before it hit the ground nonetheless. I won’t say that Castillo was wrong to not go for it. On the other hand I don’t believe that Diego purposely planned the scenario with gum shield in hand when he landed on his back for that final knockdown.

I believe Floyd would make mince meat out of Cotto today maybe in 2 years then Cotto can be a challenge for Floyd. What do you think is going to happen on the 12 of November in that fight between Floyd and zab I think mayweather will take it inside 6 rounds but it will be interest to watch until then thax.

Right now they couldn’t have made a better match up other than Zab Judah Vs Floyd Mayweahter, JR., for 2005. And that’s what we’re all happy for.
I haven’t a prognostication on this fight just yet, but that’s never stopped me before. I should be in that segment along with our RSR contemporaries later.

No I don’t think so. He’s just weighing his options and then seeing about his next moves in the running. I really don’t think any of these guys are going out of their way to avoid each other, just playing their hands right like a good friendly game of cards.

What could be the best strategy that Manny Pacquiao could use in order to beat the mighty Erik Morales in a rematch? Does Erik still have the ability to knock out opponents when his last 3 or 4 fights have gone 12 rounds?
We all would love Erik more if he could end fights via KO again.

Going the distance for many pugilists is a labor that defines hard work. Knockout opportunities are rarely scuffed or circumstantial looking after their first rounds, however a distance fight or two builds up endurance. It all depends on those factors on what your talking about. Erik is like a marathon man who outlasts the opposition and gives and takes.
Manny would have to work his jab and present angles in fighting Erik. He must be what Latin fighters coin as VIVO. Being alive in there.
When I looked at Morales a few years back during his fight with Zaragoza, I didn’t see a fighter who hadn’t had maliciousness to not take ’em out of there.
What Erik has now is what sprinters know to use in spurts when having it to use in their tank. A fighter like him knows when to turn it on or off. One other thing should be mentioned is that when a fighter goes for the knockout in an inopportune time, he opens himself up to be subjugated to getting knocked out. Most won’t say that.

I have read an article on www.mannypacquiao.com.ph about the conditioning of pacman. Filipino are very worried of his fight against Hector Velasquez because of his lack of conditioning and other vices that may affect to his upcoming fight.
What do you think of his fight? Predictions? Or do you think there is an upset?
Also do you think that Pacman’s division is the most marketable today?

It does get interesting doesn’t it? 126 LBS., fighting anywhere from junior lightweights to Lightweight are always exciting, especially these days were there doesn’t seem to be such a wide weight disparity or difficulty for fighters fighting there. Problems may arise that some may lose out on the single weight category that was revered as gospel. It all depends on what weights the fighter’s venture into for successes.
Manny will be in the unique position to fight off the small kinks inside the ring as the rounds progress, and that will always be exciting to watch. He’ll know exactly what to do in adjusting in there. That’s certain.

I doubt if that meant more for appeasing Manny in his preference this night, but will be interesting to check nevertheless. Remember that Pacquiao didn’t get his leathered choice when he fought JMM, so a coin flip at this stage wouldn’t be completely out of the ordinary here either way.

Well, Ferdie, I suspect it’ll be back to the drawing board for one of these losing. For all intended purposes thought, they can forge ahead with the matches anyway in spite of a loss, with an added incentive for the winner too.
In boxing with the stakes so high riding on each of them winning, it could inconceivably be known to happen for a loser to succumb…not because of the pressure necessarily, but more because of a setback pattern that can happen. It isn’t a bad thing.

I think Pacquiao-Barrera 2 is a lot more exciting than Pacquiao-Morales 2.
Lastly, the Boxing Gloves. Do you think Cleto Reyes is better than the other brands?

I will try to answer most of these. On the gloves you mentioned it is a matter of opinion, so I would not endorse one brand over another. I cannot in all honesty say that Pacquiao Vs Morales 2 will be more exciting than Barrera-Pacquiao 2, having Manny beat Barrera their first time.
It is possible for Pacquiao to defeat Morales, but only time will tell if he learns the explosive nature about their first lessons
Hi George — in your personal opinion do you think pacman can k.o. Velasquez? What round? I just want to find out if pacman really have the edge since velasquez is said to be a heavy underdog. This is a great segment for boxing fans.. Keep it up. Thanks.

I think Velasquez will present Manny with some problems early, but eventually Pacquiao will maintain the pressure on and increasing pace.
Certainly a technical stoppage could be evident, but don’t be surprised if it goes the distance. Some disagree with that premise altogether though sighting Manny may be too strong. Maybe.
