I have been tuning into a rather interesting yet in parts bizzare interview conducted by FightHype.com’s Ben Thompson with the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr. So far the interview has been published in 7 different sections. I was on board with some of what Mayweather Jr was saying, but in the most recent episode, he has me scratching my head again.
Firstly, in one of the episodes Floyd asks the American fans to step up and support him just like the Filipinos support Manny Pacquiao. I would like for an American fighter to rise up so that we Americans could support him like the Filipinos support Manny as well. The problem? Floyd could be that guy but he keeps saying things that turn away a lot of the American fans.
Within the exclusive FightHype video interview series Floyd subtly eludes to racism and how white fighters get preferential treatment. I won’t for a second sit here and say that there isn’t some form of racism that still exists, but to compare what Michael Vick did with dog fighting to what a hunter does shooting a deer is at the very least comical. Firstly, when did a dog become “the white man’s best friend?” African American’s don’t own dogs? China hasn’t been breeding dogs for thousands of years?
Not to mention, dog fighting is illegal and hunting deer isn’t. Oh yea, black people hunt too.
Not everything that Floyd said in the interview is off base though. Some of his points on double standards in the justice system have merit. Check out the 7 episodes HERE Advertisement
I have written on several occasions about Floyd’s charity and how he feeds the homeless. I have taken my share of hate mail from Pacquiao fans for doing so, but I like to give credit where credit is due. Floyd does do some good things for those in need.
Has he gotten a bad rap by the media over the past few years? Perhaps, but perhaps not. Floyd claims that a lot of the things that the media has reported are lies. Is it the media lying? Or is it others lying, and the media is just reporting what people are saying?
In Mississippi Floyd still has a lot fans, but not as many as he used to. I have spoken with many Floyd Mayweather fans from Biloxi, MS to Jackson, MS over the years. It’s just recently where I saw a turn against him.
The FightHype interview with Floyd is interesting to say the least. At times Floyd has me shaking my head agreeing, and other times I’m shaking my head in disbelief.ex
