Images from Russia: Roy Jones down in a blaze of glory, TKO’d late by Lebedev

Today marks what is hopefully the last time that we see living legend Roy Jones Jr. inside of the ring as a professional fighter. After getting out hustled and outfought for nearly every round during his bout with cruiserweight contender Denis Lebedev, Jones was knocked out in brutal fashion in the closing seconds of the tenth and final round in Moscow, Russia.

Jones hasn’t been the same dating back to his 2nd round TKO loss to Antonio Tarver in May of 2004 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay and people have been calling for his retirement from the sport for several years now. But Jones, who has shown great willingness towards testing himself late in his career, has now lost three in a row and four of his last six as his once incredible reflexes have begun to fade.

Jones career now stands at 54-8 with 40 knockouts after winning titles in four weight divisions over his 22-year career he is surely set for the hall of fame in Canastota. He went on the record as saying that if Lebedev whooped him that he would call it a day and those in the sport hope that he sticks to his word.

He was an amazing fighter and one of the only ones who ever really amazed me with his talents. He’s a bright individual and there are countless endeavors for him to pursue outside of being a prizefighter.
