I may be a few things, perhaps I’m a guy that has a bit of a temper or maybe I’m a sucker for a good slice of pizza, but one thing I am not, is a hypocrite. So I will give credit where credit is due, and give Fighthype.com some props for landing an exclusive in person ride along interview, and house visit with Floyd Mayweather Jr. The video is a multiple part series where Floyd gives us his perspective of things. In the interview, he does make a few very valid points. I actually enjoyed the interview and it was interesting to get a glimpse of the man outside of the boxing atmosphere.
When I checked back in to see if the next episode of the Floyd Jr interview was up, I saw a short interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr. This is what I would like to address in this article. Big Floyd as many of you know is upset with yours truly because someone ran back to him and filled his head with some things that I never wrote. Well not entirely true, I did say that Manny and Freddie are cashing in and the Mayweathers as of recently aren’t. That made him mad too, but that’s besides the point.
In this interview Big Floyd goes on the record and says that Freddie Roach is an “average trainer training an average fighter.” Read the Big Floyd interview HERE
Really? So let’s take a look at this one for a minute. Firstly, let’s examine the part where he says that Manny is an “average fighter.” How many 8 division world champions have come along that are just “average” fighters? Come on man, I mean it’s fine if you dislike a person, or if you hold some animosity for a person, but to say that Pacquiao is just an “average fighter” is just crazy.

Big Floyd feels as if Manny Pacquiao is average. Well if that’s the case, what does that make Floyd Jr? Pacquiao knocked down Shane Mosley. Did Floyd knock down Shane Mosley? Pacquiao made De La Hoya quit on his stool. Did Floyd make De La Hoya quit on his stool? No he didn’t, he won the fight VIA split decision. Pacquiao blew out Hatton in 2 rounds. How many rounds did it take Floyd to knockout Hatton? 10 rounds. Pacquiao has out performed Mayweather Jr when you look at the opponents that both men have faced. So if Pacquiao is an “average” fighter, what does that make Floyd Jr? Personally, I think Floyd Jr is a legend and a great, elite fighter. Manny falls into the same category and more. Advertisement
Now let’s take a look at Freddie Roach. Big Floyd said that Roach is an “average” trainer. Do I really need to compare Roach’s fighters with Big Floyd’s fighters and who’s fighters have come out on top? This is no knock on Big Floyd, so before someone else runs back to him and twists more of what I said, I am going on the record and saying that I think Big Floyd is a great trainer as well. To say Roach and Pacquiao are “average” is just silly.
Someone ask De La Hoya how average Manny Pacquiao is and get back to me.
I have been raising money and getting supplies to my fellow Mississippians that have been impacted by tornadoes and now floods. The Mississippi river is swallowing up towns, and it’s not getting any better. While working with the Salvation Army the other day, we started talking boxing. I also had the chance to work side by side with some of the Mississippi Braves baseball team. They are the AA minor league team of the Atlanta Braves. Some of the players asked me what my thoughts were on the Mayweather, Pacquiao saga. Most of the players want to see the two men fight. Despite all of the frustrations and barriers, most fans in general are still hoping.
