I was on Facebook this morning when a friend of mine hit me up VIA instant message. He said, “WTF is up with your boy over at FightHype? WHY does he keep shitting on your name?” I wasn’t really sure exactly what he was talking about as I have stopped reading that site for over a month now. I did a little poking around and quickly found the video interview that FH did with Floyd Mayweather Sr.
Shortly into the interview Big Floyd brought my name up and once again accused me of twisting his words. I AGAIN scratch my head and continue to wonder how a Podcast interview (audio) can have words twisted. All of the Podcast interviews that we have done with Floyd Mayweather Sr are still available on our Podcast page, so I invite each boxing fan that visits 8CN to have a listen to what Floyd Sr has said, and you be the judge.
What is Floyd REALLY mad at? He is mad at yours truly because I wrote an article on my Examiner page about the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao situation. The part that made Floyd mad is where I wrote about how Manny and Freddie are cashing in, and the Mayweathers aren’t. What part of that statement isn’t true? Pacquiao has deposited nice checks in the bank VIA Margarito, and now Mosley. Freddie being Pacman’s trainer has been in the bank as well. I’m still waiting for someone to point out what words I have twisted? Perhaps whoever ran back to Big Floyd and informed him of my Examiner article “twisted” things, but I certainly haven’t. It’s not about twisted words, it’s about what I said verbatim.
So as I am watching this video interview I see Floyd Sr struggling to remember my last name. The person conducting the interview chimes in with, “It doesn’t really matter what his name is”. Well guess what? If you look at that comment and put it into the correct context rather than a belittling context, he is correct. Names don’t really matter much, and HIS name doesn’t matter to me either.
What REALLY matters? Like I said before, I stopped reading FH and in fact, I have stopped reading most boxing sites. There are a few that I still read like Fightnews, Maxboxing, and Boxingscene, all of which are solid and informal, but sitting around surfing boxing sites hasn’t been on my agenda. I have been spending my time raising money and trying to help folks that have had their family members killed, and all of their belongings destroyed by catastrophic tornadoes that have ravished my state. This is what REALLY matters to me. When I hear someone at FH.com telling another person that my name don’t matter, it just puts everything into real perspective. What really matters to me is helping my fellow Mississippians get back onto their feet.
Who matters to me? My family and people like Roy Jones Jr, Ed Anderson, my team at 8CN. All good decent people with morals and good character. People stepping up and helping folks when they are down. I could care less about what some clown on a website wants to say about me. The truth is the truth, and the fact that there are some in the boxing world that smell of hypocrisy and garbage isn’t going to change what really matters to me in life. Boxing is secondary in my life, it’s not even close to the most important thing in my life. My family and my friends, and currently the people impacted by these tornadoes are all that truly matter to me.
