If all goes according to Juan Manuel Marquez? plans, his next fight will be on July 2 against former lightweight titlist David Diaz in the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. If things go well for Marquez, his following bout will be on November 12 in Las Vegas against Manny Pacquiao.
?Dinamita?, still considered one of the best fighters in the world, said he had three proposals to host his next fight and that he hopes to finalize the bout against Diaz this week, or move onto a new opponent.
?Option A is to fight at Palacio de los Deportes, Option B is at Foro Sol and Option C is at Arena Mexico,? said Marquez.
?It would be an honor to fight in Mexico, I hope that it takes place at Palacio, which is what I want but there?s still some details that need to be worked out,? added Marquez.
If Marquez cannot get the fight in Mexico City, he says he?s also received offers from various parts of the country.
?I haven?t fought in Mexico City in 17 years and I want it to be in the Federal District which is a place that saw me born as a fighter but has not seen me grow into a champion; I?m trying to close a deal for a fight with David Diaz, he?s a lefty and a durable fighter who will help me get my rhythm down in the case that I do get the fight with Pacquiao,? explained Marquez.
Marquez should have received a new offer from Top Rank this week for a fight against Pacquiao for either the first or second weeks of November, after which he?ll have to send it to Golden Boy to see if they can match the offer.
Golden Boy will have 30 days to try and match Top Rank or simply allow Marquez to take the fight. If a Pacquiao fight is at 144 pounds, it will complicate things for Golden Boy as a bout with Canelo Alvarez would also have to be at that catch-weight.
