LAS VEGAS ? Freddie Roach is taking a swing at fixing USA Boxing.
Manny Pacquiao’s celebrated trainer will work with the U.S. national team in preparation for the London Olympics in 2012.
USA Boxing announced the partnership Saturday before Pacquiao’s bout with Shane Mosley.
Roach is volunteering his services to help out national coach Joe Zanders and USA Boxing, which has won just one gold medal in the past three Olympics combined.
Roach thinks he’s capable of navigating the conflicts between the top amateur fighters’ personal coaches and the national team coaches. Those clashes derailed the 2008 team, which won just one bronze medal in Beijing.
Roach will work and travel with the team, but won’t be in fighters’ corners during bouts.
