Two-division world champion Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez (47-2-2, 26 KOs) of Oxnard, California, by way of Argentina has confirmed that he will be in attendance for the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley fight that takes place this Saturday, May 7th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before the Pacquiao-Mosley fight, Martinez will be at the MGM Grand on Friday May 6th to attend the 86th annual awards banquet of the Boxing Writers Association of America, which is honoring the outstanding boxers and boxing journalism of 2010, to receive the 2010 ?Fighter of the Year? award which will be hosted by SHOWTIME broadcaster Al Bernstein.
In April 2010, Sergio Martinez defeated Kelly ?The Ghost? Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) via unanimous decision to claim the WBC/WBO middleweight titles at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Then in November he knocked out former two-time world champion Paul ?The Punisher? Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) with a devastating left hook in the second round in the highly anticipated rematch earning him the BWAA?s 2010 ?Fighter of the Year?.
Most recently Martinez impressively defeated then undefeated world champion Sergei Dzinziruk (37-1, 23 KOs) of Ukraine this past March at the MGM Grand Arena at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut via eight round knockout to claim the WBC Diamond middleweight title.
