Another Bohol-raised fighter who is now based in Cebu gets his chance at glory when he vies for a prestigious regional title next month.
ALA Boy Caesar Amonsot, the country’s top-ranked junior lightweight, is lined up to challenge Indonesian Victor Mausul on September 29 in Jakarta for the latter’s World Boxing Organization junior lightweight crown in a 12-round title showdown.
“We received today from Leon Panoncillo an e-mail confirming his approval for RP No. 1 Jr. Lightweight contender Caesar Amonsot to challenge for the WBO Asia Pacific Jr. Lightweight title against the defending champion,” said sportsman Tony Aldeguer in an e-mail to this writer.
The right-handed champion Mausul, a protege of Bali promoter Pino Bahari, has an unblemished record of 9 fights with 8 wins and 1 draw with 4 knockouts. He is currently WBO World No. 14 Super Featherweight contender.
Mausul had won the WBO Asia Pacific title by decisioning Thai Pratet Sor Thanikul last April 21 in Jakarta.
The 20-year-old Amonsot, the more experienced fighter between the two, has a total of 14 fights with 12 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw with 10 KOs. He hails from Tagbilaran City, Bohol and is a provincemate of Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista, the current WBO Asia-Pacific bantam king.
Aside from being the country’s top-ranked junior lightweight, Amonsot is also rated Pan-Asia Boxing Association No. 4, WBO Asia Pacific No. 1, and OPBF No. 9.
