IBF#13, WBO#2 lightweight Michael Katsidis (18-0) scored a fifth round stoppage over Ranee Ganoy (17-10-2) of the Philippines to defend the WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title successfully at the Convention & Exhibition Centre Brisbane, Queensland, Australia tonight . Ganoy held his own during the contest but was in trouble when the referee terminated the fight and crowned Katsidis to save the import from further punishment.The Australian is chasing a world lightweight title shot at WBO champion Deigo Corrales and could receive an opportunity soon as only WBO#1 Acelino Freitas is rated in front of him . Katsidis served a term of imprisonment for assault which interrupted his professional ring career temporarily. He is managed and trained by Brendan Smith.
