“It will become the hottest match so far in the history of boxing and the soldiers are excited to see Pacquiao and Mosley fight,” says Sergent D. Scott, who is based in Camp Pendleton, San Diego, during the Media Day last April 20 at the Wild Card Gym. Scott has been following Pacquiao’s fights since 2007.
On the other hand, Top Rank matchmakers have even successfully conjured such an event a “fever-feast”. No doubt, it’s the fastest sellout event in the history of boxing. On day one, January 31, more than 16,000 tickets were sold out in three hours with the remaining 1,000 being sold as well in a few hours.
But, where’s the beef?
“One thing I’ve learned, I’ve been in the business for forty-five years: Don’t pay attention to what some people in the media say. I don’t listen to fat guys who sit on their ass at home and write blogs for freakin’ fans,” Pacquiao’s promoter Top Rank Godfather Robert “Bob” Arum says. “They are entitled to their opinions.”
Arum has his guts prevailing over bloggers who discount the feasibility of this fight. Fact is, Arum rather relies on what his matchmakers have to say.
“The most entertaining fight we could make is Pacquiao against Mosley because of their styles. And certainly it’s the most marketable fight because Mosley has a great body work and is known to the public,” says Arum who went with the advise of his matchmakers.
“I don’t usually share the same opinion(s) with these bloggers. I listen to the guys that I pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to be my matchmakers,” Arum adds.
Arum believes the pay-per-view numbers for Pacquiao-Mosley fight “will set the record straight”.
“The fuss here is the input of CBS via Showtime and the promotional values they bring to the table have been incalculable,” Arum asserts. “It is the fastest sell-out in Las Vegas and I believe we will do a remarkably large pay-per-view numbers; the audience is phenominal.”
“This is the hottest fight that I’ve been around. Ringside ticket is selling out for $ 20,000,” Arum adds.
“Showtime Networks, Inc. (SNI), the corporate division of media conglomerateCBS Corporation, would certainly help this said boxing event hit the biggest number of homes in America.”
