Nobuhiro Ishida (23-6-2, 8 KOs) might have made a splash into the middleweight high rent district with a suprising knock-out victory over American James Kirkland this past Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There are reports of Ishisa potentially receiving a middleweight title shot against Sergio Martinez, after the Japanese fighter sent Kirkland to the canvas three times.
Ishida’s performance caught the attention of Martinez’s co-promoter Samspon Lewkowicz, according to his manager Edison Reynoso.
“Lewkowicz made me an offer for Ishida to fight Sergio Martinez,” Reynoso told BoxeoMundial.
In a middleweight landscape with few marquee names for Martinez to feast on, Ishida might have made a strong case for himself by destroying Kirkland.
Unforuntatley for Ishida, a bout with Martinez is still a big if, as it is unlikely that HBO, or Showtime – the primer boxing broadcasters within the United States of America – would buy a fight featuring the six foot one native of Osaka.
Only time will tell if Reynoso’s comments carry any weight
