“THE DREAM” Gorres will try to eliminate the final hurdle to a crack at the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation superflyweight title when he goes up against ex-PABA junior fly champion Deeden Kengkarun of Thailand in a 10-round clash tonight at the New San Andres Civic and Sports Center.
If victorious, Gorres? handlers, led by lawyer Rudy Salud and Cebuano sportsman Tony Aldeguer, plan to go for the regional 115-lb crown in the southpaw’s next fight.
It won’t be an easy task, though, as Gorres is up against a Thai known for his choking fighting style.
Still Gorres is favored in his first fight since stopping his rival in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales clash in Las Vegas several months ago.
Meanwhile, two of the Viva Hot Babes, who graced yesterday’s weigh-in will be the round card girls tonight while Viva recording star Jennifer Bautista will sing the national anthem before the main bout.
The refurbished, air-conditioned fight venue is in the same block as the famous San Andres fruit market.
The rest of the card pits Donnie Nietes versus Nino Suelo; Edmund Velayo against Rey Orais; Isidro Lorona versus Lito Sisnorio; Rodel Quilaton against Gerard Ubatay; and Rey Caitom against Janrey Canete.
