Casual Talk from HOLLYWOOD, California – Fans tellingly go on their own “orbit” as they charm up
side by side with the “object” of their admiration. But, in recent days, survey reveals they are neither cold nor hot. And they’re skeptical but rather care more, much to the obscurity of Nonito Donaire, Jr.’s frenzy affair with the media, Golden Boy and Top Rank and etchetera.
Here are the breakdowns of the comparative survey between these two Pinoy ring warriors, Nonito Donaire, Jr. and Manny Pacquiao – regardless of their respective opponents, being conducted via on-line out of 500 respondents manifesting their willingness or unwillingness to buy “Pay-per-View” event(s):
For Nonitto Donaire, Jr – American hardcore boxing fans yield, 4.9%; Pinoy hardcore boxing fans, 9.6%; and Pinoy quasi boxing fans, 0%.
For Manny Pacquiao – American hardcore boxing fans yield 92.8%; Pinoy hardcore boxing fans, 98%; and Pinoy quasi boxing fans, 92.1%.
The reason we use Pacquiao in our comparative statistical survey is because his image serves as the measure through which a better “appeal analysis” about Donaire, Jr. can be had.
Yes, most of them believe Donaire, Jr. has not escaped from the curse of the vital issue about the “falling out” of the father-and-son tandem, inclusive of the Andales and Tris Dixon revelations on Donaire family conflicts, which have been “resolved”.
Another issue is reeling which can be a full-blown disaster, unless all parties involved would rather deal the issue at hand amicably even while they resolve it with the teeth of the law: “Donaire has shifted on his own axis in favor of Golden Boy claiming that his contract with Top Rank is invalid because Arum has failed to satisfy the terms of their agreement.” This same issue has lambasted both Nonito Donaire, Jr. and, his wife, Rachel Donaire, in the a bad light both in the boxing sphere and Pinoy world.
The issue, as alleged by Donaire, Jr., stems from his assertion that the contract terms they all signed require Top Rank to provide him with three fights per year.” Arum counters that “Donaire, Jr.
suffered unjuries which prevented him from taking fights in early part of his deal, and that Top Rank recently exercised its opinion for a one year extension to push Donaire, Jr.’s purported contract until at least June of 2012,” Boxingscene.com reports. And still, “Arum believes Donaire, Jr.’s injuries will automatically extend his deal even further until 2013.”
Fine. At least to a casual observer.
But, all these three parties involved can simply go through arbitration, as a matter of first resort. One thing for sure, they will have a resolution, one way or another. But, Donaire, Jr.’s real popularity among fight fans may have just lost its brilliance. In fact, he may have failed to capture the golden hearts of the hardcore fans of boxing. Fans have been so divided over Donaire, Jr’s betrayal. His popularity can be portrayed as a mingling of truth and error. He may have been “done” with his father. But, he swelled up against his Top Rank Godfather who has had cradled him with an even “somehow” farcical concept of Pinoy Power 1, 2 and 3.
Let me tell you briefly about this Pinoy Power campaign.
Pinoy Power was popularized by Top Rank to promote Filipino boxers through which Donaire, Jr. and others were able to tap their talents against other fighters outside of the Filipino community. It was a very costly campaign whereby Arum really did not make money at all. For him, it was an investment grooming Donaire, Jr’s star power potential. In fact, such brand of campaign can be said a farcical plot simply because it favored so much better match-ups for Filipino fighters, empowering them over their respective opponents as the heavy underdogs – in a sure way.
Did Pinoy Power 1, 2 & 3 really help Donaire, Jr’s career?
Definitely, yes!
In fact, without Pinoy Power, Donaire, Jr’s image cannot be sustained. He is really not a good draw for Pinoys all because of his less than amiable character outside of the ring. He, himself, has tarnished
his own reputation with that boisterous “falling out” from his father. Yes, the “act of reconciliation” was already made public in recent weeks but still the general Pinoy public doubts if such manifestation really has fixed the issue. The same so called “resolved conflict” in question has gone to the core of Pinoy pride and it hurts Donaire, Jr. more than it hurts the Pinoy public. The same issue went ugly and dirty. Almost abominable with all denials, suggesting to subjugate the truth and glorify the error and even bolstering all hair-raising accusations. He surely has failed to “dress himself for success” with Pinoy pride: reverence for better family values.
And now, it’s Arum’s turn to face the tide of Donaire, Jr’s game. But, it looks like Donaire, Jr’s “personal attach?” bears the Godfather’s ire, directly lamenting Rachel Donaire (Nonito Donaire, Jr’s wife) as a “bad influence” on his husband’s business decisions to sign up with Golden Boy Promotions.
One brilliant Rabbi named Clifford Goldstein says, “No matter how much pedicure, manicure or lipstick a pig could have, it’s still a pig.” Donaire, Jr.’s image is marred by a bad reputation in the backdrop of ungratefulness both to the father and to the “Godfather” of boxing.
That’s what happens with Donaire, Jr’s image, it’s farcical and still not even a Pay-per-View draw. He has not gotten the love that Pinoys have on Manny Pacquiao.
Donaire, Jr. can never equal the pattern nor come he come close to Pacquiao’s appeal.
