Never short for barbed words rolling off of his slithering tongue, Nicaragua’s Ricardo Mayorga once again urged Puerto Rican boxing fans to wear black on Saturday night in memory of Miguel Cotto.
Cotto and Mayorga will square off in junior middleweight battle Saturday night in Las Vegas, with the action broadcast on Showtime pay per view within the United States, and though most consider Cotto an easy favorite – Mayorga will be gunning to kills his foe in the ring.
“I said it once, and I will say it again,” said Mayorga. “All Puerto Rican boxing fans must wear black tomorrow to mourn the death of Miguel Cotto. I have trained hard, not only to win, but to kill Cotto in the ring.”
Harsh words from a fighter who has lost nearly every single high profile fight he has ever been in.
Today the contestants weighed in with Cotto marking the contracted limit of 154 pounds at MGM Grand.
The always stoic Cotto, has not given the pleasure of cracking to Mayorga’s barrage of insults, and sportsbooks across the land have the Puerto Rican as a 1 to 12 beating favorite.
