THIS time Manny Pacquiao makes a big swing for indigent athletes.
After dabbling in billiards, cockfighting and, briefly, basketball, Pacquiao plans to hold a fund-raising golf tournament for the benefit of 50 indigent and active national athletes that he will personally pick.
The tournament is tentatively set for July 28 at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
Asked about his golf game, Pacquiao proudly told reporters: “I can take a swing with either my left or right hand.”
Fresh from a legal triumph after securing a settlement of undisclosed amount from American promoter Murad Muhammad, Pacquiao was overflowing with ideas, including putting up a pro-boxing promotion and staying in the United States for six straight months to facilitate his green card application.
The boxing celebrity posed with food attendants at the Alda’s Restaurant in Malate dressed in resplendent orange long-sleeved polo and sporting a gold Rolex wristwatch reportedly costing $10,000.
He singled out track superstar Elma Muros-Posadas on the list of recipients that would be composed of past boxing champs and other active athletes “who have brought honor to the country.”
Pacquiao said about 25 of the beneficiaries would be aging boxers who have brought glory to the country but who are suffering financial difficulties.
To be dubbed the Manny Pacquiao Promotions, the outfit will initially pit national champions from different categories before eventually venturing into international title fights.
