I remember the day when current world champion prize fighter Nonito Donaire arrived on the scene. He threw a perfectly placed counter punch that cracked the cocky, arrogant Vic Darchinyan right in the head resulting in one of the best knockouts of that year.
Darchinyan would get up and start arguing with the referee as if the fight was still happening. You know that someone has been thoroughly knocked out when you see them get up and start to argue with the referee about the stoppage and can’t even remember getting knocked unconscious. With that knockout, Donaire would make a statement in the division as the new sheriff in town.
More recently Nonito would make another statement. A few weeks ago he stepped into the ring with then champion Fernando Montiel. Once again, the ?Filipino Flash? would land another perfectly placed left hook counter punch that would send his opponent into unconsciousness.
Montiel’s legs were twitching as if his nerve endings were trying to figure out what the Hell just happened. Credit to Montiel, he would actually get up, only to get rocked again and with that the referee would finally stop the fight.
With back to back knockouts over Darchinyan and Montiel, Donaire’s stock has risen, and he is no longer flying underneath the radar.
Unfortunately sometimes when a person becomes successful, drama and hate is not too far around the corner. Such is the case with Nonito Donaire. The Donaire’s are a one of the nicest couples in the sport. Both Nonito and his wife Rachel are two of the nicest people that someone could meet. So why anyone would spend time that they will never get back attacking these two people is beyond me.
Recently, due to a handful of blowhard so called journalists, the Donaire’s personal life has been thrust onto the front pages of boxing websites. A falling out between Nonito and his dad, mostly due to misreporting by boxing writers, was plastered all over the place. As a result of this misreporting, Nonito and his wife Rachel had their characters attacked by writers and fans.
Thankfully, the Donaire family have since reconciled. They all sat down, and once both sides realized that certain things actually were not said, and realized that some of the things that were said was taken out of context, they have been able to put the past behind them, and move forward.
It’s a pretty sorry person and a true testament of character when one twists words only to juice up a story. Certain journalists would interview Nonito, then take what he said, twist up the wording, change the context of what he said, and then run a sensationalized headline/article. Pretty sad indeed.
Recently Donaire had his life threatened. He went public on his Twitter account with the death threat in an attempt to protect himself. Are you kidding me? We are at a point when prize fighters are having to deal with death threats?
This is what happens when some clown sits at a keyboard and trumps up bull crap. This is what happens when a so called boxing scribe takes what a fighter says, twists up the wording, and generates some TMZ gossip column. Report the facts people.
Donaire has the opportunity to take the torch from Manny Pacquiao one day. He is that damn good folks. One day Manny Pacquiao is going to hang up the gloves. When he does, Nonito Donaire may very well be the guy that takes the torch and runs with it. He has all of the marketability and talent that one needs. Let’s not tear the guy apart or tear him down by plastering his personal life all over the internet.
