Moments ago at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBA champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Ricardo Mayorga both weighed in at the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds for their clash tomorrow night. The lead up to the fight has been full of tension and things once again were thick, at least from Mayorga’s end.
After Cotto weighed in Mayorga positioned himself for a customary face off but it was something that Cotto would have no part of, just as was the case during the final press conference on Thursday afternoon. Cotto instead simply motioned to the crowd in attendance and strutted off the stage, leaving Mayorga plenty of room for some more trash talk.
Mayorga insisted that Cotto is a coward and that he will be knocking him out because of this fact. Throughout the festivities leading up to the fight we have seen Mayorga attempt to get under Cotto’s skin but it was only during January press stops in New York and Puerto Rico that Miguel fired noticeable salvos of his own.
Cotto is obviously looking to do his damage inside of the ring and gut feeling says he has been itching to lay his hands on his Nicaraguan foe. Saturday night can’t come soon enough.
