Z “THE DREAM” Gorres’ highly-anticipated OPBF eliminator against Thai Deeden Kengkarun will now take place on July 30 at the Makati Coliseum.
Gorres, the top Orient Pacific Boxing Federation superflyweight, faces a tough test before his planned crack at the OPBF diadem as he goes up against Thai toughie Kengkarun, the former Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) junior flyweight champ.
The event, to be covered by Viva Sports, will feature Gorres before he takes on the winner of the upcoming Masayuki Arinaga-Daisuke Maruyama fight.
OPBF president Frank Quill had earlier installed Gorres as the OPBF’s mandatory challenger in the latest rankings released by the World Boxing Council-sanctioned regional group.
Gorres, the sweet-punching former amateur standout who recently underwent training under renowned tactician Buddy McGirt in Orlando, Florida, is preparing for his upcoming fight at the famed ALA Gym in Talamban, Cebu.
The talented southpaw, who is managed by eminent lawyer Rudy Salud and Cebuano sportsman Tony Aldeguer, last saw action on March 19, when he easily defeated Glenn Donaire in the first round. The fight was in the undercard of the Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao tiff.
He has been undefeated in eight fights since his shock defeat at the hands of Edgar Rodrigo in 2003.
The stocky Kengkarun, a native of Chumporn, Thailand, is a dangerous 33-fight veteran (21-10-2, 12 KO’s).
