In my recent interview with Showtime Boxing Analyst Al Bernstein, the topic of Floyd Mayweather fighting Manny Pacquiao came up. Of course I had to ask him who he thought would win between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather is like the 800lb gorilla. You just can’t ignore the guy, you have to talk about him.
Bernstein initially spoke about and pointed out the amount of punches that Pacquiao throws as opposed to how many punches that Mayweather throws. Pacquiao throws approximately twice the amount that Mayweather throws, on average. If Pacquiao throws 600 more punches than Mayweather does over a 12 round period, that spells trouble on it’s own. What will Floyd do with those 600 extra punches? That shoulder dip won’t cut it against Pacquiao.
With all of that said, let’s take a look at Shane Mosley. One of the things Bernstein said to me was to watch out for Mosley’s right hand. Shane hurt Mayweather badly during the 2nd round of their fight with that fast right hand. Floyd did a masterful job hanging on, and ultimately survived the round.
If Shane Mosley lands one of his right hands Vs. Pacquiao, and odds are that he will, it will be very interesting to see how Manny handles it. If Pacman walks through it, and fights on, that my friends spells big trouble for Floyd Mayweather IF and when he fights Pacquiao. If Mosley is able to hurt Pacquiao with his right hand, knock him down, or knock him out, then Floyd stands a much better chance Vs Pacquiao.
The right hand of Shane Mosley will tell us a lot. Depending on how Pacquiao handles it, that will tell us how he would handle Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mississippians that I have spoken to about this agree. I spoke with both Pacquiao and Mosley fans about Shane’s right hand. All of them agree that Manny must be careful of it. They also agree that depending on how Manny takes that right hand, it will tell us how he would do Vs. Floyd Mayweather.
James Thornton of Collins, MS talked to me about Shane Mosley. James is not a Mosley fan, but expressed his concerns for Pacquiao, ” I don’t know, I just have a strange feeling about this fight. I think Manny may get upset in this fight. I think Mosley just matches up better, and I think he has much more in the tank.”
Al Bernstein has predicted a Pacquiao victory over Mayweather. It’s tough to argue with his logic. Pacquiao has business Vs. Mosley first, so let’s see what happens.
