The public fooled once can be fooled again. After the Pacquiao Cotto fight Freddie Roach Pacquiaos trainer stated they wanted Mayweather next. Along with the request come some intangibles and mind games that Freddie may not want to play. Pacquiao wins over Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito have not changed that scenario. Neither has the upcoming match with Shane Mosley an opponent touted as one that could possibly dethrone the champion. As they say it remains to be seen. The odds continue to favor Pacquiao which will only heighten and rekindle the request for Floyd to come to the table and get the fight date set. Roger Mayweather, Floyd?s uncle and trainer and Floyd Sr. are already inside Freddie Roach?s head as evidenced in the continuing stream of video footage available on the web. While discounted as nothing more than trash talk it still remains to be seen. It?s only trash when it doesn?t happen and until then we can all speculate about the results. We know that upper management in any business needs a cool head to prevail. We see the failures of the same in journalism as well as in the ring. A true boxer puncher, unexciting as he dismantled his opponents and before becoming money Mayweather he was pretty boy Floyd and the public waited patiently for the butt kicking he never received. He retired but returned and embarrassed Juan Manuel Marquez the only fighter to really give Pacquiao any difficulty in his rise to pound for pound champion. The time for speculation is fast coming to an end. When Roger Mayweather was asked prior to the Pacquiao Hatton fight who would win his response was that Hatton should win. Exactly, he should have won he was bigger, stronger, fast and fearless but he still lost. Size matters and when Marquez was defeated Floyd showed that his size and quickness and ability were enough to defeat an opponent that many thought would end his unbeaten streak. Matchups make fights and the Mayweather Marquez battle proved this. The public fooled once can be fooled again but that will have to wait until after Shane Mosley takes his turn.
