Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, whose day job is a member of Philippine Congress, arrived in his usual late self Thursday at the A-Montana Resort in Alabal, Sarangani to address provincial legislators who were gathered in a forum to discuss power situation in Mindanao.
He immediately apologized and pointed to his new haircut as the culprit.
He however failed to mention that at 5:00 am in the morning on the same day, his car was seen still parked outside his building along Aparente Street in General Santos City.
Nevertheless Pacquiao said he had his hair redone because it no longer fits him as a congressman.
In earlier interviews, the Filipino boxing superstar said the hair is already getting in the way of his vision as he stars his training regimen for the May 7 fight against Shane Mosley. On Wednesday afternoon, he played hoops in a private gym he reportedly now owns in one of the subdivisions in the city.
Pacquiao grew his (now gone) hair for more than four months dating back to his Antonio Margarito fight and his locks became a fashion debate among paparazzi. Others say it was a throwback of the late Bruce Lee look. Some say it was his version of the Justin Bieber hairdo. Still some say it was his resident songwriter Lito Caimo who influenced him into growing those locks.
Me think however that good luck that was brought by his ?outrageous? hairdo finally ran out in Macau over the weekend.
A certain Allan Encarnacion reportedly saw the congressman in a casino in Macau for two straight days.
A report further said Pacquiao allegedly lost close to a million dollar at the Wynn Hotel in Macau. This was confirmed by a source from Sarangani who has become close to Pacquiao in recent months.
Despite stories of his Macau gambling escapade appearing in the web, his camp has so far failed to issue any statement denying or confirming the said report.
But I can only speculate that Pacquiao in part decided to finally shed off his hair locks after that alleged loss in Macau.
You see, Pacquiao is not only a deeply religious man. He is also very superstitious.
That is why he sleeps in almost the same hotel whenever he fights in Las Vegas. He still takes the bus ride from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in the week before his fights. He goes to the neutral corner whenever he steps into the ring to pray and does it again after every each fight.
When he won against Margarito, those hair and goatee forget what blades and scissors were all about especially when Manny won close to P11 million in a cock derby in December.
Anyway, who says Manny has stopped betting on cockfights?
So to stop any losing streak, maybe a new hairdo will drive away the bad luck.
Good or bad luck, I do think Manny should keep his hair in check including his love for playing cards.
They are looks and vices not befitting a congressman.
