Former world champ and ?Trainer of the Year? Buddy McGirt will be in the corner of middleweight title challenger Sergiy Dzinziruk this Saturday night when he challenges Sergio Martinez (10:30 ET / 7:30 PT HBO) at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.
?(Dzinziruk) is a very solid fighter. He has a mixture of a European and American style. This is the perfect opportunity and showcase for him to show the world what he?s got.? McGirt said.
Mcgirt formerly trained elite fighters such as Arturo Gatti and Paulie Malignaggi. However, has been lying a bit lower as of late with lesser profile clientele.
He did train former 3 division champ James Toney for his most recent fight against Damon Reed.
?He came into my gym two weeks before the fight.? McGirt said about Toney, who came into that fight at a career high 257 pounds.
?We worked on basically getting the weight down cause he was heavier than that.? McGirt said. However, after the fight, McGirt said Toney was ?back in the gym two days after the fight.?
