When one hears the name Michael Koncz come up, it’s usually followed by some not so nice comments. Articles all over the internet at different times accuse the man of a plethora of not so nice deeds. Koncz has had issues with Roach in the past, and more recently with conditioning coach Alex Ariza.
So if any of the things that are being said about Michael Koncz are true, then why does Manny Pacquiao keep the man around? You would think that if half of what was written about Michael Koncz were true, Manny would have parted ways with him long ago. The fact is, Manny has stuck by Koncz for many years now.
Pacquiao must see something positive in the man for him to be sticking by him for this long. There have been some serious wars between Koncz and Freddie Roach over the years, and still Pacquiao keeps Koncz around. Manny Pacquiao could fire Koncz tomorrow if he wanted to, but he chooses not to. There are people out there that could fill the shoes of Koncz, but Manny doesn’t feel that it’s necessary.
So with that said, does Michael Koncz get a fair shake? Didn’t Alex Ariza slap Michael Koncz in the face in the Philippines not too long ago? If my memory serves me right, I do believe that he did. There have been several folks within team Pacquiao that has had issues with Michael Koncz, yet he still remains at the top of the team chain of command. Pacquiao could change that with one phone call, yet he sticks by Koncz.
Perhaps its as simple as this. Perhaps Manny just happens to like the guy and doesn’t want to fire him. Koncz may have done things that have pissed off some folks, but Manny may chooses to look the other way because he just happens to like Koncz. There’s something to be said about loyalty. Perhaps Manny feels as if Koncz has been loyal to him and would prefer that he keep him close?
Mississippians who follow the Pacquiao world that I have spoken to for the most part do not like Michael Koncz. There seems to be a general consensus that Koncz is not trustworthy. Again I ask, if that’s the case, then why does Pacquiao keep him around?
I spoke to Darwin Jones, a Pacquiao fan from Canton, MS. Darwin feels that Pacquiao should get rid of Koncz all together, ” It’s all about power and money. Koncz is looking to get as much money out of Pacquiao as he can. Nothing else matters to that guy.” Well it’s easy for fans to sit back and fire away at Koncz, but obviously Manny Pacquiao does not have the same feelings toward the man. Pacquiao seems very content with the job that Koncz has done thus far.
If Pacquiao trusts Michael Koncz then that is pretty much where the buck stops.
