FOR DEFYING a pre-fight rule, Filipino Wyndel Janiola lost his mandatory shot at reigning International Boxing Federation junior flyweight champion Will Grigsby of the United States this year.
The New Jersey-based IBF, through championship chair Lindsey Tucker, informed Janiola’s handlers that the Filipino fighter has been ruled out as a future Grigsby opponent for seeing action in an Independence Day card last June 12.
The IBF ban on Janiola was imposed to avoid putting the negotiations for the Filipino’s clash with Grigsby, who is promoted by Don King, in peril.
It was not known why Janiola ignored the IBF condition and went on to fight Ricky Escaner, who was technically knocked out in the second round.
Terry Carter, Janiola’s backer, said he would ask the IBF to reconsider its decision before leaving for the US recently.
But it is unlikely the IBF will change its decision since it is very strict in implementing the rules
