Earlier today at the Rodeo Ballroom inside of the Beverly Hills Hotel, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and former three-division champion Shane Mosley officially announced their May 7th bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao is a heavy favorite heading into the contest but some insiders are pointing to Mosley’s strength, durability and power to keep the contest competitive.
The respect between each man is evident and Pacquiao kept things simple during the first day of the press tour.
“This is a good fight on May 7th,” the Filipino icon said. “All I can say to Shane is I hope you train hard for this fight and I will train hard for this fight.”
Mosley went on to note that this fight is possibly the biggest of his career and the 39-year old should be entering the ring as though his life is on the line. Mosley had a rough 2010 that saw him nearly blanked over twelve rounds by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and perform dismally against Sergio Mora four months later in a majority draw.
The fight is still nearly three months away but whenever Pacquiao fights their is always a huge buildup. Mosley may not be the ideal fight we would all like to see but this fight is clearly the biggest event thus far in an already busy 2011.
