If I wanted to be a wise guy, if I desired to be sarcastic, I’d say that Manny Pacquiao, the Pinoy Idol, and American Idle Floyd Mayweather Jr., are headed in completely different directions.
Besides the usual national media dog and pony show to hype his May 7 Las Vegas bout against faded glory Sugar Shane Mosley, Pacman will be riding on Amtrak rails Monday afternoon in a specially hired car Monday en route to some big deals in America’s capital, Washington, DC.
(Conductor Fast Freddie Sterburg will checking all tickets so don’t try to hand him a ticket marked “New Haven.”
Megamanny and lovely wife Jinkee will spend their romantic Valentine’s Night in the historic Hay-Adams Hotel, just steps away from where another highly successful guy from an archipelago (Indonesia) works and lives.
Mayweather, whose middle name is incredibly “Joy,” meanwhile has to take care of felony assault and related charges (the “Baby Mama Drama” with Josie Harris) in a Vegas court hearing slated for March 10.
Sure, Mayweather probably gets a no jail dispo just like Uncle Roger did in his woman battering case but you can see the contrast.
I could say then that Pacquiao is headed for the White House while troubled chracter “Money” is head for the outhouse, oops I mean the courthouse. (Got to be careful on that, “officer of the court” and all that, you know.)
So, while Pacquiao is handling questions about his crazy Bruce Lee/Justin Beiber hairdo and telling inmquring fans he’s a completely natural, banned drug free super athlete, Mayweather is getting edcuated as to a no contest plea like the one Roger took on Jan. 21 despite the qualms of his choking victim, Melissa St. Vil.
Pacman may be discussing world affairs and lobbying for financial help for Sarangani Province from another Uncle, this one we call Uncle Sam, while Mayweather is tweeting, twerping, Facebooking and dithering on his own website about fights Pacman lost many years ago.
So, unfortunately, Congressman Pacquiao, who’s never uttered a cruel word about Mayweather’s various legal predicaments or anything else, comes off as a statesman/athlete while L’il Floyd plays the role of a jealous suitor.
Roses are red, violets are blue, Pacman will be hanging with Sen. Harry Reid and possible Barack and Michele Obama, and Floyd what about you?
Keep posting links to Manny losing to Torrecampo and Sinngsurant, Floyd, like it’s even remotely relevant except that in overcoming those defeats, Pacquiao became the legend he is today.
I don’t hear you, Floyd, although I must always respect your ring skills.
It’s your life skills that need some work, kid.
You need to put that “Joy” back in your name.
Well, anyway, I hope you and Ms. Jackson have a lovely V-Day.
Some info on the Hay-Adams, where a check of room rates run from $425 to $925.
Wonder if they’ll let me sit in the lobby for twenty bucks.
Limited budget and all that.
It would be worth the trip just to hear Uncle Bob Arum sit in the “Off The Record” bar and whisper, “This is off the record…”
(Aside to ADP, Uncle Charlie Wilson sang about you at the Paradise Theater in The Bronx Saturday night when he crooned, “There goes my baby…there goes my destiny…”
