Roger Mayweather avoided prison the other week after he plead no-contest facing his two misdemeanor battery charges. Though the uncle/trainer/coach of Floyd Mayweather Jr. escaped jail time, he was sentenced to a year of probation, with 24 weeks of domestic violence counseling, and $1,000 fine. But the good news about this development is we may now actually see Money Mayweather fight this year. It is wildly theorized that the younger Mayweather prefers to fight only if it is his uncle trains him, just like Manny Pacquiao who would only fight if it is Freddie Roach guiding him. So that means the much awaited and highly anticipated lucrative bout between Mayweather and Pacquiao may finally come into fruition. Maybe not this year, or maybe not at all, depending on HBO, Showtime and the mighty dollar.

As you may know by now, Manny Pacquiao have just moved out from the backyard of HBO. Last Wednesday, Showtime, CBS, and Top Rank formally announced that the sport?s biggest fight of the year between Manny Pacquiao and ?Sugar? Shane Mosley will now be televised and distributed in PPV under the partnership of CBS-Showtime. Showtime is under the umbrella of CBS, one of the three most powerful networks in America, and its reach that covers 115 million homes throughout the country may very well bring a new spin on the sport of boxing that most of the world has forgotten. It will now bring mainstream attention to millions of viewers, although it will still depend on whether this match and the other Top Rank match between Cotto and Mayorga becomes successful. This is where the Money-Pac showdown becomes affected.
Throughout the years, HBO and Showtime have dominated the PPV distributions of boxing events and they are known to be rivals. Remember the Mike Tyson-Lennox Lewis fight? Tyson was under contract with Showtime at that time and Lewis was with HBO. Because of network discrepancies, their match went very tough negotiations that they almost cancelled that momentous event. Should Pacquiao and Mayweather ?finally? agree to fight, who do you think will distribute the match? Which network do you think will give way and say, ?yes please, for the sake of the sport, we will back out and let you run the show?? After all the failed negotiations by both camps the network rivalry will now play a significant role if this fight materializes. Although no word yet as to whether Manny Pacquiao and Top Rank will sign any contract it appears that they will most likely fall under contract with CBS/Showtime for all of their television engagements.
