BEVERLY HILLS, California ? Shane Mosley believes Manny Pacquiao will bring out the best in him on May 7.
Saying ?styles make fights,? Mosley said during Thursday?s kickoff press conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel that Pacquiao?s pugnacious nature suits him fine.
?A guy attacking me makes its easier for me to pick shots. Once he comes in, that could be the end of the night (for him),? Mosley told boxing writers who milled around him moments before Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum presided over the well-attended event.
Mosley, who turns 40 in September, is a huge underdog as he attempts to knock the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown off Pacquiao?s head at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But while admitting that he didn?t look sensational in his last two fights ? against Floyd Mayweather and Sergio Mora ? that doesn?t mean he is ripe to be taken out to dry.
?Yeah, it?s more of the style and it was hard for me (to cope with their style),? said Mosley, citing Mayweather as being too defensive and Mora always riding the bicycle.
But with Pacquiao, Mosley sees himself in his element.
?Pacquiao throws lots of punches and he punches back when he gets hit,? noted Mosley.
And that, Mosley said, will be the moment when he expects Pacquiao to be at high risk and very susceptible to being struck with one of his power punches.
?Punching power,? answered Mosley when asked about what Pacquiao should be concerned about as they prepare to head to their respective high-altitude training camps next month.
Freddie Roach, who has been calling the shots in Pacquiao?s corner the last ten years, also believes Mosley?s style poses problems.
?This is another big fight for Pacquiao and we have a different style to deal with and this is not an easy fight. Shane?s been there many times and he will rise to the occasion.?
Arum also acknowledges the dangers of facing a crafty puncher like Mosley and this is the reason why ?it?ll be a very entertaining fight for the fans.?
?Shane?s strength is fighting somebody who comes at him. And we know how Pacquiao fights and this kind of fight will make both of them shine and people will see real entertainment. This is the business we?re in, making entertaining fights,? said Arum, who is in his 45th year of promoting fights.
After the stop here in Tinseltown, the tour will proceed to Las Vegas for another press conference at the MGM Grand on Saturday, Monday in New York and Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
