You never know what to expect when WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa steps into the ring. The Cuban stylist has a way of captivating fans because his tremendous upside also comes with a few chinks in his armor. Outside of his power and blazing speed of both hand and foot, Gamboa has often shown a porous defense that has lead to him being dropped on more than a few occasions.
It typically makes for much suspense and now word has come from our friends at BoxingScene.com that Gamboa will be headed to Atlantic City for his next bout, a March 26th defense against interim champion Jorge Solis on HBO. Gamboa is coming off of an uneven victory over Orlando Salido at the Pearl Theatre inside of the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, last September. In that contest Gamboa showed flashes of dominance but suffered a knockdown late in what was a sloppy outing.

For the past few years the buzz has been building towards a fight between Gamboa and WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez. The dangerous southpaw from Puerto Rico has also shown a penchant for the kill inside of the ring but he too comes with his vulnerabilities and that?s what makes a clash between the two champions so intriguing.
Expected to see action on the Gamboa-Solis undercard will be newly-signed Top Rank prospect Glen Tapia, from Passaic, New Jersey. The sturdy junior middleweight garnered rave reviews after serving as Manny Pacquiao?s chief sparring partner for his bout with Antonio Margarito and Bob Arum reached out to him with a co-promotional deal in December.
Earlier this month I spoke to Tapia about his upcoming 2011 campaign and the 21-year old seems ready for it all.
?This is the start of my life, my journey, where I want to be at. And I?m not even close to where I want to be at so I?m going to keep working harder to get where I want to be at. Once I am there I am going to work a little harder. So keep looking out for me because I am going to give you a show every time out.?
