Bobby Pacquiao kayoes foe, clinches WBC title

BOBBY Pacquiao finally moved out of the shadow of his more illustrious brother, winning the WBC Continental Americas super featherweight crown by knocking out Carlos Navarro yesterday at the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, California.

The younger brother of Ring Magazine featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao put the reigning champion away after the second of two knockdowns that sent Navarro down to his knees in the seventh round.

Pacquiao, the reigning RP super featherweight champ, started slowly but stepped up his attack after a shot to the body in the sixth sent Navarro down.

The southpaw Navarro owns a knockout win over Agapito Sanchez, who had fought Manny Pacquiao to a draw in 2001.

Bobby Pacquiao, who was fighting in the US for the second time, attributed his win to having trained superbly at the famed ALA gym in Cebu City.

Prior to his showdown with Navarro, Pacquiao had sparred against top ALA gym fighters like WBF champ Dindo Casta?ares, RP junior welter champ Bart Abapo, OPBF titlist Randy Suico, RP welter champ Dondon Sultan, and WBO Asia Pacific bantam king Rey Bautista.

The win improved Pacquiao’s record to 25-11-3, 11 KO’s, while Navarro fell to 26-4-1, 21 KO’s.
