I just read where Yahoo boxing scribe Kevin Iole called Dennis DSource Guillermo a “Fan Boy” and I have to tell you, I was a bit puzzled. I also read where Dsource the alleged “Fan Boy” answered, and supported his position with a bunch of facts, just as a real Journalist should do. I have been in this spot before myself. I have been called “Fan Boy” and “Groupie Writer” you name it, and you know what? The day people stop hating on me is the day I will begin to worry. Obviously Mr Guillermo does matter otherwise someone who writes for a prestigious news source such as Yahoo would never have retaliated in a matter such as Iole did.
Mayweather is a cash cow. Pacquiao is a cash cow. Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao is a cash universe. With that said, Mosley Vs. Pacquiao may very well be a better fight than we expect. All these calls for boycotts are foolish if you ask me. If you want to boycott a fight, fine don’t buy the fight, but don’t cram your belief down the rest of the boxing world. A fan can make up his own mind if he wants to boycott a fight or not.
I have spoken to a few boxing insiders, one of which was boxing legend Freddie Roach. The famed fight trainer also believes that Mosley may put up a much better fight against Pacquiao than people may think. Of course one could argue that Roach is just saying that in order to increase a few PPV buys, but hey, usually Roach is pretty spot on when he makes a prediction. I for one would much rather see Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao but for many reasons that fight isn’t happening. Believe me, Pacquiao Vs. Mosley will do just fine with PPV’s because guess what? It’s Manny Pacquiao.
Mosley was good enough for everyone when he went up against Mayweather, so now that he’s going up against Pacquiao he’s not worthy? Again, I would rather see Mayweather and Pacquiao, but if that fight is out of the cards, it’s out of the cards. I personally would rather see Pacquiao and Marquez, or Sergio Martinez, but I certainly won’t be stomping my feet and crying to the people for a boycott.
Manny Pacquiao has worked hard and he’s defeated legends. The guy has taken on giants and slayed them all one by one. Now he is going to fight Shane Mosley and there isn’t a damn thing that anyone can do about it. Well, yes I guess there is one thing. You don’t have to watch it if you don’t want to. I for one will watch it, and so will hundreds of thousands of other people.
I for one think that Mr Iole of Yahoo sports should stick to his usual good writing skills and stay away from hurling insults at Dennis Guillermo. You may not agree with some of the stuff Iole writes, but the guy is a very good writer. Dennis Guillermo on the other hand came onto the scene just a few short years ago and he has made a heck of splash for himself. I give the kid credit for getting out there and grinding and pounding the pavement.
When someone resorts to calling someone a “Fan Boy” or a “Groupie Writer” it only shows that those being insulted are making an impact and either jealousy or envy is involved. And if neither jealousy or envy is the case, then perhaps it’s just straight up ignorance.
