Thompson Boxing co-promotes junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who will fight fellow champion Devon Alexander on Jan. 29 in Pontiac, Mich.
Alex Camponovo, head matchmaker at Thompson, said he would like to see Bradley fight either Amir Khan – another junior welterweight champion – or WBO welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao. Both possibilities depend on Bradley getting past Alexander.
“We wanted to do that fight a long time ago, after he (Bradley) beat Lamont Peterson (in December 2009),” Camponovo said of Bradley-Khan. “We actually had contracts but Khan ended up leaving Frank Warren for Golden Boy and that fight never happened. That would be a great fight.”
As would one with Pacquiao, Camponovo said.
“Maybe Amir, or Pacquiao down the line if he (Pacquiao) decides to fight somebody who is real. The fight with (Shane) Mosley is about three, four years too late. The fight with (Antonio) Margarito, everybody thought he was fighting a huge guy. But he was fighting a huge guy who could fight only one way. Even (Oscar) De La Hoya. … Very good matchmaking.”
“I think it’s time for him to step up and fight somebody who is real and has real potential to give him a good fight.”
