Mayweather’s best bet: Whip Martinez, then target Pacquiao in 2011

He’s been brilliant inside the ring and a buffoon outside his work environment.

Now, more than ever, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has some real nightmares.

No, they’re not of doing Nevada State Prison time, of being on the same cellblock as Orenthal James Simpson in Lovelock, or of meeting a burly, amorous cellmate named ?Bubba.?

Despite all his predicaments in the Las Vegas courts, Mayweather is not going to jail, not even on the Baby Mama Drama case.

Those in legal circles in Vegas will tell you that Mayweather hired the Wright man, lawyer Richard Wright, for the job of keeping him out of the pokey.

But, when he puts on his Pjs and lays himself down to sleep every night, ?Money May? cannot escape the constant shadow of Manny Pacquiao.

And now?brainstorm time?there is only one quick route for Mayweather to turn the tables, to even things up a bit between himself and the Pinoy Idol.

What Mayweather could, should but may never do is to go to HBO, to Ross Greenburg, and to make a two fight deal with the prime cable network.

By June, Mayweather could have all his legal issues in the rear-view mirror. Sure, he will have to go to his domestic violence education classes but so what? That’s just a matter of regular attendance.

By June, Mayweather should be ready to fight so how can he then ?one up Pacman who will have one upped Floyd in the manner in which he defeats mutual foe Sugar Shane Mosley on May 7?

It’s simple because Mayweather, whether will Al Haymon, Don King or Larry Fine at his side needs to ask Greenburg to give him a multimillion two fight package.

It’s Mayweather facing Hot Boy Sergio Martinez at 154 pounds with ?the winner? going to face Pacman in a record-breaking Novermber showdown.

Do you think Martinez beats Mayweather? I can’t see it unless Mayweather’s idle time has left him with a lather of ring rust and whether, at age 34, he starts fighting like he’s 44. (No offense, Bernard Hopkins.)

By whipping the Argentinean, Mayweather sends the message that he is back. He sends the message that Pacquiao’s Pound for Pound king status is debatable and he puts himself back into a 50-50 money split situation vis a vis Manny.

Mayweather can mount the rostrum, grab the bully pulpit, take the Bull of the Pampas by the horns…choose your own cliched phrase here.

And, if he can double up, and beat BOTH Martinez and then Pacquiao, Mayweather will be able to seriously claim all time great status.

The road back is clear, the road is open.

Quo vadis, Mr. Mayweather?
