Pacquiao 9 to 1 favorite

THIS early, eight-division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has been tagged as the overwhelming favorite to beat three-division titlist Shane Mosley when they meet on May 7 next year (May 8 in the Philippines) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

According to Marv Dumon of Examiner.com, some casinos and online bookies have given the 32-year-old boxing star odds of minus 900, meaning if he fought Mosley 10 times, Pacquiao would win nine times out of ten. With these odds, a $900 bet on Pacquiao would win only a hundred dollars. One online bookie considers Pacquiao a -1,000 favorite.

Mosley stands at around +450, with a hundred dollar wager yielding $450 if the Pomona-native wins. The fight will be held at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.

Mosley, 39, has fought the sport?s best fighters at welterweight and super welterweight in a span of nearly a decade, and is considered by most pundits as a future first ballot Hall of Famer. However, his career has been tarnished by a videotaped admission to using performance-enhancing drugs earlier in his career.

To his credit, Mosley has never been knocked out in his career.

While Pacquiao rose to prominence in the lighter weight classes, Mosley has been a pound-for-pound star battling much bigger opponents.

Mosley defeated Oscar de la Hoya twice by decision in the early 2000s. More impressively, he stopped Fernando Vargas twice by TKO in 2006. He lost twice to a then-undefeated Vernon Forrest by decision and lost twice to Ronald “Winky” Wright by decision.

Mosley?s later wins came against Luis Collazo, Ricardo Mayorga, and Antonio Margarito. In May 2010, Mosley suffered a one-sided loss to undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr, and earned a draw against Sergio Mora in September.
