On a Dec. 11, HBO televised, Golden Boy Promotions’ card, WBA junior welterweight (140 pounds) titlist Amir Khan (24-1, 17 knockouts) of England scored a first-round knockdown and survived nearly being knocked out in the 10th round of a unanimous decision victory over hard-punching, WBA interim champion Marcos Rene Maidana (29-2, 27 KOs) of Argentina.
On the Khan-Maidana under card, rising southpaw junior welterweight Victor Ortiz (28-2-2, 22 KOs), of Oxnard, Calif., battled to a 10-round, majority draw with Lamont Peterson (28-1-1, 14 KOs) of Washington, D.C., who was floored twice in the fight.
Khan is slated for an April 16 return to the ring in England, and Peterson (pictured above, at right) is a potential opponent.
Peterson’s other title shot was a Showtime televised, unanimous decision loss to WBO champ Tim Bradley (26-0, 11 KOs), of Palm Springs, Calif., who has a Jan. 29 bout opposite southpaw, WBC titlist, Devon Alexander (21-0, 13 KOs), of St. Louis, Mo., at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich.
