MANNY Pacquiao has achieved what most boxers can only just dream about, but somehow he still continues to fight and face the risks the brutal sport entails.
One of the Philippines? most prominent promoters, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, thinks the 32-year-old Filipino is better off retiring than placing his health on the line.
?Right now, he has nothing to prove. He needs to retire. We don?t want him to get hurt. Manny is already up there. (Floyd) Mayweather is the only legitimate fighter left,? Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.
History
Pacquiao has forever etched his name in boxing history books as one of the best that ever laced the gloves, after capturing an unprecedented eighth division crown after beating Antonio Margarito.
Pacquiao has already decided to face aging veteran Shane Mosley in his ring comeback on May 7 in Las Vegas after Mayweather was unavailable due to personal problems outside the ring.
Aldeguer believes the fight between Pacquiao and Mosley is just for money and not a fight between two of the best fighters in the world.
?It?s going to be a business fight. Mosley?s not the best fighter out there for Manny,? said the young Cebuano promoter.
Not himself
Aldeguer said the 39-year-old three-division world champion hasn?t been looking like himself in his last two fights against Mayweather and Mexican former world titlist Sergio Mora.
Mosley lost to Mayweather last May by a lopsided unanimous decision while settling to a split draw with Mora in a lackluster bout in September.
?With what he has done for the country, he has nothing to prove. Like what I said, he has to retire. We want him to be safe. He should just focus on being a congressman, enjoy his family, enjoy what he earned and enjoy his legacy,? Aldeguer said.
