Ancient Hopkins, youthful Pascal both look like Tarzan but fight like Jane

Great boxing minds do not always think alike.

This was borne out after age 46 next month Bernard Hopkins and 28 year old Jean Pascal waltzed their way to a less than electrifying 12 round majority draw for Pascal’s WBC light heavyweight title Saturday night (Showtime) in Quebec City.

I had it pegged 114-111 or 8-4 in rounds, all of them close except rounds one and three where the sagging Philadelphia ring relic was legitmately decked by the Haitian born Montreal fighter.

DiBella, hardly a Hopsack fan given their bitter history, saw it for BHop 7-4-1 in rounds.

Legendary Johnny Bos says we’re both all wet as he saw the sometimes lethargic and often retreating Canadian winning by five points.

Steve Morrow, to my view, was on the mark or closest to it, 114-112 for Hopkins.

Claude Pacquette saw it a 113-113 “push” and Belgium’s veteran Daniel van de Wiele knotted it at 114-114.

Mark it down as a less than scintillating majority draw and I doubt anyone will call for a rematch.

One thing Bos did have exactly right is that neither fighter had much to scream about.

In a almost 24 foot inside ring in which he could’ve used a bicycle, Pascal landed many clean shots when he was not looking awkward and ineffective.

ne guy I was watching the bout on TV with cracked, “They both look like Tarzan and they both are fighting like Jane.”

Hopkins, who did a youthful prison stint for robbery, cried robbery.

That’s an exaggeration, mark it down as petty theft.
