IT is noteworthy that celebrities and businessmen top the taxpayers? list for calendar year 2009.
Among the showbiz/media personalities who apparently paid their tax duties to government and made it to the top individual taxpayers? list were Willie Revillame, Manny Pacquiao, Sharon Cuneta, Kris Aquino, Piolo Pascual, Marian Rivera, Maria Ressa, and Julius Babao.
It is not surprising to note as well that big names in business dominate the list for top corporate and individual taxpayers.
However, is the government and the people really getting what is due considering the systemic corruption that is perceived to be rampant in the government?s regulatory bodies like the BIR?
Just asking?
AN UPSIDE TO KRIS? COMPULSIVE TALK
WE are not strangers to what would seem to be a compulsive need for Kris Aquino to reveal without compunction the most sensitive of family issues and writing about the medical treatment that she and her sons are undergoing right now is just another case in point.
Kris disclosed in her Twitter page that Joshua contracted hand, foot and mouth disease and infected her and Bimby. She further shared information as to the signs and symptoms of the disease, the medicine they are currently taking and precautionary measures undertaken like self-isolation to contain infection within the family.
Where Kris? past pronouncements particularly on past relationships and now on the initiative to terminate her marriage with James Yap come across as a circus not worth watching, could the educational value of her disclosure outweigh the perceived downside of indiscriminate release of information associated with Kris? Just asking?
?SAGIP REPORTER? PROGRAM?S REACH
THROUGH the Sagip Reporter? Program of Sun Life International, reporters and other TV crews of the country?s leading networks and reporters and editors of major newspapers and business papers received certificates for a one ? year coverage of Life Insurance and Personal Accident renewable every year.
This is Sun Life International?s way of giving back something to the members of the media who has always played a significant role in the pre-need industry.
In view of the much publicized commemoration of the first anniversary of the massacre of journalists and members of the broadcast media and the deep wound it has cut into our psyche as a nation, how far is the ?Sagap Reporter? Program?s reach? Just Asking?
