GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Former two time world boxing champion Gerry Pe?alosa appeared to be in high spirits as he and his in laws hosted a dinner for Rep. Manny Pacquiao Thursday evening in outskirts of the city overlooking Sarangani Bay.
Still looking very fit, Pe?alosa said he is not going away from boxing and ?will hunt down prospects? whom he will eventually promote.
He now promotes and manages several boxers and will fly to Manila Saturday to attend to his promotional outfit but will be back the following day to fulfill several commitments here.
Pe?alosa fought his last professional bout on ocotber 10, a unanimous decision win over Yodsaenkeng Kietmangmeeof Thailand.
The diminutive boxer from Cebu City is considered as the finest technical Filipino boxer ever and fought a total of 65 professional bouts over a span of 21 years, winning 55 of them while losing eight, most of them controversial decisions.
He was stopped only once while he retired 37 of his opponents.
Pe?alosa, 38, captured his World Boxing Council super flyweight title in 1997 and annexed his second one in 2007 as a bantamweight by knocking out Jhonny Gonzales in seven rounds.
His father, Carl, was also a Philippine welterweight title holder while brother Dodie Boy was the first Filipino boxer to capture world titles in two different weight categories.
The Philippine and word record, of course, is now being held by his good friend Manny Pacquiao who just won his eight world title in as many weight categories in outclassing Margarito Antonio last month.
Pe?alosa now considers General Santos City as second home where his wife hails from.
Wife Goody is the daughter of former city councilor and businessman Rodolfo ?Ditdit? Llido and wife Virgie.
Virgie Llido said there are still offers for Pe?alosa to hold another fight but her son in law is reportedly bent on retiring.
Pen?losa still owes Oscar de la Hoya?s one fight base on the promotional contract he signed with golden Boy Promotion.
