International Boxing Federation super featherweight champion Robbie “Bomber” Peden of Australia said he is looking forward to a big fight against Filipino ring star Manny “The Destroyer” Pacquiao. Peden came up with the statement in response to American trainer Freddie Roach’s earlier comment that Pacquiao may next challenge the Australian bomber this September at a still undetermined venue.
“From what I know, Pacquiao might be my mandatory. If we can all reach a deal, then that’s a fight I’d love to make. I’ve been looking for that type of fight,” Peden told Boxingtalk.net.
Since he loves to bang it out in the ring, Peden foresee that a clash with Pacquiao would be an explosive bout.
“It absolutely would be. I’ve been knocking on the door long enough for these types of fights,” said the 31-year-old Peden, who holds a 25-2 win-loss record spiked with 14KOs.
Peden, who seized the vacant IBF 130 pounds crown after scoring an eighth round stoppage of Nate Campbell on February 23, 2005 at the Melbourne Park in Victoria, added that he also want to take on Mexican stars Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera if given a chance.
“I’ve worked for nine years to get this belt, and I know that with a big risk, comes big money, so I’ll take a big risk and fight anybody. I want Erik Morales, Marco Antonio barrera or Manny Pacquiao,” said Peden.
A fight with Pacquiao is hazy though as the Filipino champion is presently embroiled
in a legal war with his estranged American promoter Murad Muhammad, whom the Filipino ringster accused of amassing huge amount of his purse money in his US fights.
Pacquiao, through a strong-worded letter, recently told Murad that he is still fired and has no right to tell other people in the boxing industry that he is still the promoter of the General Santos City-native fighter.
But hours after that announcement, a representative of the American promoter divulged that Murad has obtained an injunction that will prevent Pacquiao from fighting in the United States.
This means that Pacquiao won’t be fighting this year in the United States for any promoter other than Murad.
