When the former pound for pound king says something was the ?greatest?, well it’s probably worth listening to. Roy Jones Jr recently on an 8CountNews Podcast said that Manny Pacquiao’ performance over Antonio Margarito was one of the greatest performances that he’s ever seen.
Roy is a big supporter of Manny Pacquiao and has gone on the record many times praising him. Roy has told this writer many times that he’s a fan of Pacquiao and loves to watch him fight. He recently spoke about Pacquiao’ performance against Margarito, ” I love to watch Manny Pacquiao, and that fight against Margarito was the best performance from a smaller man over a bigger man that I have ever seen. He did what I did when I fought John Ruiz. Manny gave up 17 pounds and I gave up 26 pounds, and those are the kinds of performances that I love.”
Jones was referring to his victory over the heavyweight champion John Ruiz where he gave up 26lbs and took his title from him. Jones loves the fact that Pacquiao has jumped so many weight divisions and continues to dominate, ” Manny came from so many smaller divisions on up to where he is at, I love that. I can’t say enough exceptional things about Manny Pacquiao, and what he did against Margarito was great, I love to see it.”
Mississippians are used to seeing Roy Jones Jr. He has fought in this state several times, and is a frequent visitor here. Roy has a huge fan-base in this area, and Pacquiao’ fan-base has grown here too. Boxing fans in Mississippi are no different than anywhere else, they like to see exciting fights. Both Roy Jones Jr and Manny Pacquiao have certainly delivered over the years.
Pacquiao fans are now waiting to see who his next opponent will be. Mosely has been talked about, Sergio Martinez has been talked about, and Andre Berto has been mentioned as well. Floyd Mayweather Jr seems to be on the outside looking in, and he’s basically brought that on himself. At this point in Pacquiao’ career it doesn’t really make a difference. He will fight anybody at anytime.
Legends speaking highly of legends. That’s the case here with Roy Jones Jr and Manny Pacquiao. It’s a breath of fresh air to see two elite fighters lifting each other up in praise.
