RING Magazine featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao won’t be fighting this year in the United States for any promoter other than Murad Muhammad.
Just hours after Pacquiao announced that his estranged promoter “remains fired,” a representative of the American promoter revealed that Muhammad has already obtained an injunction that will prevent the Filipino ring idol from fighting in the United States.
“If somebody is dreaming that Manny Pacquiao can fight in the United States come September or even the whole of next year, they must be dreaming though wide awake,” Muhammad’s representative said in an e-mail. “Manny must remember that he signed a four-fight contract with Muhammad and there’s two more fights left,” it added.
The letter also emphasized that the loud-mouthed promoter will not step backward against whatever legal battle Pacquiao has hatched against him.
“As of this writing, an injunction to prevent Pacman to fight in the US has been readied a couple of months ago and if Pacman believes that he can sustain a long legal battle with Murad, he is wrong, dead wrong,” the letter pointed out.
Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach confirmed in an interview with boxing website Fightnew.com Tuesday that the Filipino will be gunning for the International Boxing Federation junior lightweight crown of Robbie “Bomber” Peden of Australia in September most likely in the US.
The fight is supposed to be a warm-up for Pacquiao’s rematch with Mexican Erik Morales, who beat the Filipino last March in Las Vegas.
