Moments ago at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, Marcos Rene Maidana and Amir Khan made weight in advance of their clash tomorrow night. Khan holds the WBA junior welterweight championship of the world while Maidana serves as the interim titlist. Khan serves as more of the pure boxer in this scenario but his power shouldn’t be overlooked. The British star is coming off of an 11th round stoppage over Brooklyn’s Paulie Malignaggi this past May in New York, a contest in which he dominated the action with his speed and fluidity.

Maidana trained for this bout at Barry’s Boxing Center in the heart of the city and will be banking on his power to carry the day. His 29-1 record has seen him halt 27 foes within the distance and the fact that Khan’s lone defeat was an upset knockout to Breidis Prescott a little over two years ago only adds to his optimism.
The HBO doubleheader also features a solid attraction between junior welterweight contenders Victor Ortiz, originally from Garden City, Kansas and D.C. fighter Lamont Peterson. Ortiz weighed in at 141 pounds while Peterson came in at 139 for their clash at a contracted weight.
