What up Greg, I wasn?t impressed by Pacquiao?s victory over Antonio Margacheato? About two years ago Mosley did the same thing to Margarito, but knocked him out cold! And I didn?t see anyone saying Mosley is the greatest thing to happen to boxing. That?s what I don?t understand! The same thing when Cheato knocked out Cotto, and when Cotto beat Clottey they didn?t get the same recognition as Pacquiao does. When people say he is one of the all time greats its disturbing. Because, If I match Pacquiao up with any of the greats at weight classes he has won titles in, they would mop him up. Jorge Zarate
GR: It wasn?t that it wasn?t impressive ? it was that it wasn?t unexpected. I expected Manny to stop him, and he didn?t, so to me he under-performed. Manny has a history of fighting big name guys that come off a loss. It all started with Zahir Raheem. Back when Raheem whooped Morales? ass, Manny chose to fight him, not the man he should have fought in Raheem. That fight ? a wonderful performance ? was Raheem?s downfall and it shouldn?t have been. A great win like that should catapult your career, but then again, not every sport is boxing. (That?s a joke.) After that, Manny fought Oscar after a weak-punching Steve Forbes broke his orbital bone, then it was on to Hatton after Mayweather smashed him, and a beyond done Juan Lazcano had him out on his feet. That was followed by a weak fight with Josh Clottey ? not a fight with Miguel Cotto, who beat Clottey. This is all rounded out by not fighting Mosley, who killed Margarito, instead fighting Margarito. Did you ever notice that Manny is okay to fight guys that aren?t a threat at a catchweight (Clottey, Hatton), yet he wants to fight all the dangerous guys at a catchweight (Cotto, De La Hoya, Margarito)? I mean, stop me if this is made up and isn?t reality. All of the sudden, after Floyd smokes Shane and Shane gets beat up by a guy he would have killed in Mora, Pacquiao wants him. And guess what? The fight will be at 147, not 142, like it would have been a year ago when he was scared shitless. You know how I feel about Manny and we know what?s going on here. The reason I can?t stand Manny isn?t because he is a threat to Mayweather, it is for the things I mentioned. It?s common sense, people ? not that difficult.
Hi! I think pacquiao fought real threats because he move weight classes (1-3 weight classes) above his ideal fighting weight. Ever since i know, pacman has been fighting the best of the heavier weight class. I think there is no good boxer at your standards or maybe you are plainly a racist mayweather fan. -Wilbert Santos
GR: Wait, I?m a ?Racist Mayweather fan?? Oxymoron. Further proving my points above
Finally Greg! I was so fed up with everyone toasting to Manny and this magnificent accomplishment of beating this undefeated, bigger, stronger, super fast fighter. Oh wait, he beat up Margarito. The boxer with no defense and telegraphed punches and cement in his boots. Come on! even Roger Lodge was boasting about Manny on channel 5 on the morning news. Please. I do have to say that manny has great foot movement. He moved in and out but again, vs Margarito. When will see him fight a legit champ in the division? Someone with speed and youth? a real threat? I wish there was a welter that was the shadow of what Tommy Hearns was around today to challenge Pac. I don’t see any welters that can give him a fight. ALexander and Bradley are the only ones that come to mind. That kid from the Virgin Islands is still suspect to me. Do you have any other fighters in mind? p.s I’m sick and tired of these casual fans talking about boxing and jumping on Pacmans bandwagon. His wins vs Barrera and Morales were legit and then he started fighting damged, drained fighters. The Catchweight term sickens me. -Hugo Velasco
GR: Manny is the love of the media right now. Most say what they say because it is the consensus, that?s why it makes me sick. Most writers or newscasters don?t know a hook from a book, but they like to run their mouths. Manny has never fought an American Black fighter. Why is that? How can this dude be an all-time great if he hasn?t done that? It?s a joke. Manny kills, I mean KILLS Devon and Tim. No contest. Floyd is it right now, that?s all. The catch-weight king, that?s what it is.
You?re missing the point if you?re going to dismiss what happened on Saturday as simply what was expected. You don?t have to be a Pacquiao fan to acknowledge that the way he did what he did was remarkable. Had he fought say, Shane Mosely or some other ?shot? fighter, I?d agree with you, but that wasn?t the case here. I agree that from a tactical standpoint, Margarito was overmatched ? but the ?on paper? abstracts usually lay the traps that trip up a fighter who?s trying to do something like fight way out of his natural weight class. I honestly don?t like the whole Top Rank, in house thing, but other than Mayweather ? what other fight was there? Timothy Bradley? I?d love to see that but who else would watch? -Ian McGloin
GR: Wait, let?s get this on record?. ?What if he fought Shane Mosley or some other shot fighter?? Well, guess what Ian, who do you think is going to get the Pacquaio fight next? That?s right ?Shot ass Shane Mosley?. I mean, do we see a trend here? How many more times does this stunt have to be pulled over everyone?s eyes to have everyone wake up? Seriously, if you?re damaged goods and can bring an eight figure payday, send resume to Top Rank Attn: Bob Arum. If you are a legit threat and want him to be tested for PED?s, beware, dude will stop speaking decent English and you will be called unrealistic. Gimmee a break
What’s up brother? I noticed after Litzau’s performance, he came over & thanked the HBO crew.. He said i just wanted to thank you guys for having me on, & I told you guys i wouldn’t make you regret it & put on a good performance… Lederman smiled & nodded in congrats, Emmanuel Steward smiled & offered verbal congrats saying “you did just that, great job 2nite”… Larry Merchant, made the face of a sour toddler pouting…Now i realize they guy interrupted, but he seemed to say excuse me & was very polite & respectful… Merchant could’ve nodded an acknowledgement & continued his commentary. Instead he pouted like a child… & then gave the guy a two thumbs down motion as the guy was turning from thanking the HBO crew? Is this guy not a world class jerk or what? what was that all about Ben from Chicago
GR: Nah, Ben, I saw this too, and thought the same thing, but it came out that Larry was giving the thumbs down to Lou Dibella about his fighter?s performance.
Pac & Shane will be gettin’ it on next year. I cannot wait to see and read how the Pacman sheeple (Doug Fischer, Gabe Montoya and your peepz at B’talk) will view Mosley as “young and rejuvenated” and/or “a dangerous and live dog”), as opposed to the “old and needs to stop fighting” boxer that Mayweather embarrassed a year ago. Any thoughts? -Brian Mims
GR: Does it matter? We all know Shane is done, but he will magically be transported back into a 26 year old body and when Manny smashes him it will be another great accomplishment to the greatest fighter to ever live. Ya feel me?
The best performer this past Saturday evening seems to be getting over looked with all the Khan hoopla. Joseph Agbeko put on a masterful performance in shutting down Yhonny Perez. Agbeko showed that he is capable of fighting a disciplined fight and sticking to a gameplan. He controlled the action, with intelligent boxing and movement, he engaged when he wanted to, made Perez miss repeatedly with his head movement, utilized a wide assortment of shots, jabs, lead right hands, over hand rights, hooks to the body etc…. the few times Perez was able to land something flush, it didn’t do anything. Agbeko made this fight so much easier than the first one, by simply utilizing his boxing ability. In the 6th round he forgot about his boxing, and the fight reverted to the toe to toe brawl it was in the first fight. He went back to his boxing in the 7th and kept it moving. When Agbeko boxes like he did last night, I would be hard pressed to pick against him at bantamweight unless the opponents name is Donaire. What did you think of his performance. -JD
GR: Agreed, my man. I was very impressed as well. I cannot wait to see him match up with Abner Mares, who bullied the bully against Vic. It should be a great fight
Good day gentlemen! Been a long time follower of the website and I just want to say you guys have a great blend of differing opinions on the sweet science that makes reading the site VERY interesting, since it opens up readers to viewpoints they may not have about certain situations and certain fighters. As a Filipino, I just want to ask you guys about your recollection of Luisito Espinosa’s career, your favorite Espinosa fights, who you would’ve wanted to see him fight, how great he was as a boxer and as a champion. It just seems that Manny Pacquiao has become this HUGE personality world wide, but Louie still gets a tremendous ovation whenever he appears in boxing events in the Philippines and was (or still is) one of the greatest sources of pride for the Philippines. This is, after all, a guy who fought in front of 75,000 people here in Manila (the fight was free, but still LOL). I’m really interested to hear your thoughts on Louie. God bless and more power to all of you and the best source of boxing views I know of! Merry Christmas! Carlo Castillo Manila, Philippines
GR: Carlo, I like Luisito. I think he was a good fighter and it is good to hear he still gets respect wherever he goes. His fights against Rios, Medina and McKinney are his best in my opinion. Obviously, Manny is a much better fighter with a better resume. I would have liked to see Luis fight Barerra, Morales , Marquez, Soto or Gatti. Maybe Kelley or Hamad. Think those would have been good fights but he would have probably lost all of them. Good email, you have a good Christmas as well.
