Argentine boxer Sergio “Maravilla” Mart?nez is a big hit in Mexico. The reigning middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council, donated the robe and shorts that he used on April 17, when defeated Kelly Pavlik for the title, to the WBC’s museum.
Martinez is preparing to honor his mandatory obligation against interim-champion Sebastian Zbik, which is tentative for March 12. The executive secretary of the WBC, Mauricio Sulaiman, thanked Martinez and his agent Sampson Lewkowicz for their donation. And during Martinez’s visit to Mexico, he also visited children’s hospitals and centers for battered women.
Martinez was mobbed with questions regarding a possible fight with Manny Pacquiao. The middleweight champ would accept such a fight but refuses to drop down any lower than 154-pounds.
“I want to be the best pound for pound fighter in boxing and to achieve this you have to fight the best. I would fight Pacquiao and it could be at 154-pounds, but I will not go any lower [in weight],” Martinez said.
