No word on any cannolis yet but it does look like Don King left the gun(s) in Cleveland or Florida.
A stressed out King, the flamboyant, 79 year old Hall Of Fame promoter, just buried his wife, Henrietta, after a Cleveland funeral serice led by Rev. Al Sharpton Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday night, according to WOIO-TV in Cleveland and then confirmed by TSA officials, King was discovered to have bullets for a .38 and a .357 Magnum in his carryon luggage.
The ammo was confiscated and King then took the commercial flight back to his Manalapan, Florida, home. I figure DK could use a laugh at this point and his unofficial official apologist, Paterson, NJ, sports agent Greg “Bail Bonds” Marotta delivered one.
(Marotta is sort of a “Zelig” of the sports world and was recruited to play football at Memphis State personally by a fellow named Elvis Prelsey.)
We discussed the bullets being in DK’s baggage and Marotta had two explantations.
“One, somebody planted them there,” Marotta said.
“I know what happened,” Marotta said. “Don went into his closet and grabbed one of his old coats from the 1950s.”
Well, the second line made me laugh.
King was a numbers racket kingpin and nightclub owner before going to prison on a manslaugher charge after a gambling dispute.
King was also shot at by a nunbers racekt rival and fired back in self defense on a bitterly cold day.
King has said his rival, now deceased, wore a cheap fur jacket to his detriment.
No criminal charges ensued after that gunplay.
Back in the mid-50s, King was known to the Cleveland cops and rivals as fearsome Donald “The Kid” King.
