Freddie Roach, trainer to Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan, breaks down the style of Marcos Maidana ahead of Khan?s defence of the WBA light welterweight title at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Roach suggested that if Khan exploits his game plan perfectly he could even overwhelm and defeat Maidana inside five rounds.
?If Amir has him badly hurt, I will let him off the leash,? said Roach. ?That said, Maidana can be at his most dangerous when he is hurt ? as we saw in his fight with Victor Ortiz when he was down three times in the first two rounds and came back to stop Ortiz.
?But I have told Amir I want lots of movement, and three-punch combinations from him in the early rounds, and then out.?
Indeed, that is likely to become the blueprint for the future. ?But I don?t mind if he keeps his right hand in his pocket for the first five rounds, because we can take this fight away from Maidana early with the jab,? added Roach.
